Build the rules behind your next encounter.
IsoAssets Turn-Based Combat is an extensible C# combat engine for Unity, with editable encounter data, replaceable rules, sample AI and deterministic commands and saves.
Three ways to start
Start with separate movement/actions, pooled action points with d20 attacks, or a control-point encounter without HP. Edit units, abilities, resources, costs, statuses and layouts in Unity catalogue inspectors, then exchange shared JSON.
Replace turn, budget, targeting, spatial, hit, damage, effect and victory policies in C#. Commands validate the current state revision and commit as transactions. Rejected commands preserve battle and random state. Saves preserve turns, budgets, statuses and PRNG state, check content compatibility and support validated backup recovery.
Try the free Watchpost demo
The separate Windows demo lets you try all three example rulesets before buying the source. Choose the file marked Demo on the itch.io page; no source purchase is required. It uses geometric sample art and an embedded Camera Toolkit runtime. The demo is an executable, not the editable Unity project.
Inside the paid download
- Three UPM tarballs: Combat Core, Sample Rules and Unity Adapter, with editable C# and GUID metadata.
- Camera-independent catalogue inspectors, setup tools, session-prefab creation and Unity JSON save adapter.
- Three shared JSON starter catalogues, sample AI and a console host with tests.
- Quick start, extension/compatibility guides, changelog and single-entity license.
What your game supplies
Connect your own UI, input, camera, visuals and animation to committed simulation events. The paid ZIP does not contain Camera Toolkit source, the Watchpost HUD/full Unity demo project, production art, an animation system, spell VFX, inventory, progression, multiplayer, simultaneous turns, reactions, elevation or a visual rule editor. C# experience is recommended for integration and new mechanics.
Compatibility
Unity 6.3 LTS and newer; qualified on Unity 6000.3.27f1, Windows x64 Mono. Core targets .NET Standard 2.1 and does not reference Unity. The free demo was tested on D3D11, with graphics jobs disabled. Other platforms, graphics backends and IL2CPP are unqualified.
Qualification includes 52 core tests, eight clean-import checks, 17 integration checks and a Windows player completing all three profiles with exact save round trips and backup recovery. An earlier native smoke-launch crash was followed by successful automated and normal-launch checks using the explicit D3D11 configuration. These are local workstation checks, not a second-machine study or a frame-rate guarantee.
Installation
Extract the paid ZIP and read START-HERE.txt. In Package Manager install the Core, Samples and Unity Adapter tarballs in that order, then choose Tools > IsoAssets > Combat > Setup. The free demo is separate: extract its entire ZIP and run Watchpost.exe on a Windows x64 PC with Direct3D 11 support.
License and support
Single-entity direct license: one purchasing person or legal entity, including its project employees/contractors; commercial and non-commercial projects, editable source and no extra developer seats. Standalone redistribution is prohibited. Updates included when released, without a fixed schedule, future engine ports or custom integration promise. Support: hello@isoguild.com. itch.io purchases follow itch.io payment, delivery and refund procedures and applicable consumer rights.
Development
AI assisted implementation, testing and documentation under publisher direction and review. The screenshots are actual technical-demo captures. No runtime AI service is required.
